Sitka spruce guitar tops

The vast majority of guitars produced in North America have Sitka spruce soundboards. Sitka spruce is the preferred species of soundboard due to its strength to weight ratio; its inherent stiffness makes it an ideal choice for steel string acoustic guitars. Sitka has a warm, balanced tone with a clear midrange.

The color of Sitka ranges from creamy white to light brown with a localized layer of pinkish wood running parallel with the grain. This characteristic is typical of Sitka spruce and has no effect on stability or tone.

Tonally, Sitka spruce is extremely vibrant providing an ideal "diaphragm" for the transmission of sound on any size and style of stringed instrument. Sitka Spruce is well suited for fingerstyle, classical or flatpicking guitars.

We've recently acquired some spectacular naturally seasoned (non figured) Sitka spruce from a retired luthier.  The Sitka originated on the Queen Charlotte Islands and was harvested in 1997.  The wood was hand split and sawn into 5/8" thick blanks for eventual resawing.  We will be listing AA, AAA and a handful of master grade tops over the coming weeks.
