Black Walnut Guitar Sets
Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) is considered one of the most desirable woods of the United States. It grows in the Mid and Eastern United States and Canada. The heartwood can range from a lighter pale brown to a dark chocolate brown with darker brown streaks. Color can sometimes have a grey, purple, or reddish cast. It is strong, durable and stable for its weight; it has excellent bending properties with little or no movement in service. The tone produced from a walnut guitar is warm, deep and well rounded most often sought after by fingerstyle guitarists.
All of our sets are air dried for a minimum of three years before we make them available to the public.
The current sets we have available were milled from a walnut log we acquired near the town of Lynchburg, Virginia in the Fall of 2009. This particular tree was blown down during a late summer storm and intended for firewood but fortunately we acquired the wood before it was processed.
Below are some images of the walnut tree.
