Colonial Tonewoods

Curly Australian Blackwood

Australian blackwood,(acacia melanoxylon),comes from New Zealand, Australia and Tasmania. It has similar visual features to its distant cousin, acacia koa; it is honey brown, straight grained with an intense, three dimensional luminescence. The wood is very stable and easy to work. Acoustically it has warm, woody tones similar to that of mahogany and the brightness of rosewood and sugar maple. Australian Blackwood is an all around excellent tonewood well suited for various playing styles.
