Colonial Tonewoods

Ovangkol guitar sets

Why beat around the…tree? We love Ovangkol. (AKA Guibortia ehie, Shedua, Mozambique, Amazoue or Amazakoue). Not only does it have a lively tap tone, when combined with the right top, it gives you a bright and wonderfully responsive guitar. (Since Ovangkul comes from the same family as Bubinga, it shares many of the tonal qualities and depth of Rosewood, although it has a much better “snap” usually associated with medium density woods such as Koa and Walnut.
All of our Ovangkol is also old as the hills. The wood was processed in the mid 60’s and has been stored in a friend’s barn ever since.
